10,915 fans watched an exciting game at WRIGLEY FIELD. The Pittsburgh Pirates topped the Chicago Cubs by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2. 

Larry McWilliams(7-13) delivered a fine performance for Pittsburgh. He went 6 innings surrendering 7 hits and no walks. Chicago made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. 

McWilliams got relief help from Cecilio Guante who gained credit for his 33rd save. Rick Sutcliffe(18-10) was the losing pitcher. He got hammered, allowing 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.
