Right fielder Claudell Washington had 2 base hits at FULTON CTY STADIUM as the Atlanta Braves beat the San Diego Padres by the count of 6 to 3. 

Atlanta scored all of the necessary runs in the 7th inning scoring 6 runners on 7 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Dale Murphy who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he stroked a single plating two runs. Atlanta banged out 11 hits on the night. 

Rick Mahler(11-17) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing 3 runs. Bruce Sutter recorded his 16th save. Tim Stoddard(2-4) took the loss in relief.
