October 3, 1985: Astros (79-80) at Giants (72-87)

Jose Cruz slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI as the Houston Astros defeated the San Francisco Giants by the score of 5 to 2 at CANDLESTICK PARK. 

Houston took the lead for good in the 3rd inning plating an isolated run. After an out was recorded, Mark Bailey drew a walk. Joe Niekro followed next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Bill Doran then doubled scoring the run. Dave Smith relieved and was untouched by San Francisco as he recorded the save, his 28th. 

Niekro(14-16) got the win allowing 1 run in 6 and 1/3 innings. The loss was charged to Dave Lapoint(8-18). He gave up 7 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.
